Singleton Station

Singleton Station goods shed, West Dean

South Downs National Park

Condition surveys of the historic former station platform and goods warehouse alongside providing a repair schedule for each, based on three levels of priority: urgent repairs to prevent collapse and risk to public safety, necessary repairs to prevent further deterioration of the structures, and desirable works to enhance and restore the buildings to their former glory.  This was all to enable the client to obtain budget costings for developing a strategy to carry out the repair works.

The station and associated buildings were completed in 1881, providing access from the Chichester line to the south and connecting up with Midhurst to the north.  The station closed in 1953 and although being used since then by a number of small businesses, its condition has sadly deteriorated.  The surveys were the first step towards making the structures safe and their eventual restoration.
