The quinquennial inspection and report prepared in 2015 at grade I listed Holy Trinity Church, Rudgwick identified a number of areas of stonework requiring repair. Much of the pointing had been carried out in phases of hard cement pointing which had caused damage to the soft sandstone.
Another of our projects has been presented with their Sussex Heritage Trust Award, this time in the Small Scale Residential category, in recognition of the sensitive conservation and internal alterations.
Chairman of the Sussex Heritage Trust, Simon Knight, visited West Dean College on Monday 7 December 2020 to present CEO Alex Barron and the team with their Public & Community Award, in recognition of the work involving extensive conservation and repair of the roof to the House.
We won two Awards at this year’s Sussex Heritage Trust Awards held on 25 November, with a third project being Highly Commended. The Sussex Heritage Trust was established in 1977 as a charity ‘to preserve, improve and encourage the appreciation of the architectural and natural heritage of Sussex’.
Following a planning committee meeting on 29 September, lasting late into the evening, we are delighted to have received permission on behalf of the parish of St Margaret’s Church, Ifield, Crawley, West Sussex for the demolition of the existing single storey annexe and new build of a two storey extension to the church hall.
Congratulations to the team at St Mary’s, Portsea for securing a £764,000 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund towards the conservation repair of their unique 1889 JW Walker and Sons pipe organ.
We continue to be impressed by the benefits of modern technology when looking after our built heritage. Here at St Peter’s, drone footage is helping us diagnose storm damage to the weathervane to produce a schedule of repair without the need for immediate specialist access.
Magnolia House is a locally significant three-story town house that dates from the 18th century. Listed grade II, it is located within the St Faiths Conservation Area.
We worked closely with the client and local authority to secure successful planning and listed building consents for additions and alterations to the grade II Lurgashall village shop and adjacent house.
The long-awaited new Pevsner Architectural Guide for West Sussex has now been published. We were very pleased to get a mention for the annexes at St Mary’s Church, Sidlesham and St Mary’s Church, Thakeham, as well as works completed at Christ Church, Worthing.
